NEW DELHI: A tragic incident unfolded in Delhi’s Mustafabad early Saturday morning, as an under-construction six-storey building collapsed, killing at least four people and trapping several others under the debris.

The collapse, which occurred around 2:30 a.m., was caught on CCTV footage shared by local residents. The video shows a massive cloud of dust and strong gusts of wind sweeping through the narrow alley just moments after the structure gave way.

Preliminary reports suggest that the collapse was triggered by a dust storm and heavy rains that lashed parts of the capital late Friday night.

Rescue efforts were swiftly launched by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, and local civic authorities. The operation is ongoing, with officials working to locate and rescue those still trapped beneath the rubble.

“At around 2:50 a.m., we received information about the building collapse,” said Divisional Fire Officer Rajendra Atwal. “NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, and other agencies are involved in the rescue operation. We are doing our best to save those still trapped.”

Authorities confirmed that four fatalities had been reported by Saturday morning, though the number of injured is still being assessed.

The area has been cordoned off, and an investigation is underway to determine if structural violations or construction negligence contributed to the collapse.
